You learned what web hosting and domain names were by reading this article and felt confident enough to go look at web hosting plans and start your website ( How to build a website) So you went to go “get web hosting” and found Shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS hosting, dedicated servers, lung heart transplant and rocket science molecular decodification… Well, maybe not the last two, but now you’re confused! What in the world are all these different “web hosting” plans and what do I pick ?!?!?!
It’s not so hard to pick the right plan, I promise it’s very easy. When picking web hosting, you have to ask yourself what your needs are first. Do you want a hosting plan because you expect millions of people to visit your website and you’re just insanely popular? Then you will want a VPS plan so that it’s powerful enough to receive all that kind of traffic.
Do you want to be able to support lots of images pictures videos and beautiful graphics? Well, if you do then you have to answer the second question – Do you want to do that for 5 websites or less? If you do, then you will want a Shared hosting plan such as the Professional or the Business plan.
Or do you want to be able to do that for a bunch of websites because you want to be able to host as many different websites you want without worrying about reaching a limit (Tell your friends, “Hey, I’ve got a server. Yup, so if you have a website and got tricked into hosting with HostGator or Godaddy, I’ll save you. You can host your website with me because I get to host unlimited websites all for the same low price every month) then you will want a reseller hosting plan such as the SSD Python B or SSD Python eXtreme
So basically, shared hosting means you are hosting just a few personal websites. The more power you want then the higher tiered shared hosting plan you want because it has more memory, more cpu power, to help power you. Then reseller hosting means you are hosting personal websites and also other peoples websites. It also could mean you have a bunch of personal websites and don’t want to be told you can only host X number of websites – You want to be able to host unlimited websites. Lastly, VPS hosting (Virtual Private Servers) means you fall into any of the above categories but one or more of your websites hit it big, became popular, and gets a bunch of traffic so a little ole web hosting plan just ain’t gonna cut it – You want the power behind your websites to make sure the whole world can see ya!
